Our Technology Center was named the Vera B. Rison Technology Center by the former Career Alliance job development agency and the new Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village is honoring her by retaining that name in memory of her dedication to the youth of Flint, Michigan. Mrs. Vera B. Rison was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives for the 48th District from 1997–2002, a Genesee County Commissioner from 1986–1996, a member of Genesee County Community Mental Health, and chair of Service Employees International Union Local 79. She was a tireless advocate for the youth and their families. While she passed away August 31, 2015, Vera B. Rison will forever be remembered for her commitment to the Flint community.
