The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village
The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village (SBEV), an IRS approved 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, serves as a pillar of community life for the city of Flint. Although we particularly focus on the northern region of Flint where people, institutions, economies, and infrastructure have been impacted by disinvestment and isolation for several decades, our long term goal is to provide young people of the entire city a space to learn, develop, lead, and invest in their individual development, as well as the development of their communities.
The former Dewey school building has been rehabilitated and is currently being upgraded to house a wide array of educational, training and job placement services for youth in the Northern Flint, Michigan area. The campus has more than 62,000 square feet of devoted space that is exclusively dedicated to the developmental needs of Flint's "at-risk" youth population. The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village with its unique holistic approach to character development, its comprehensive wrap-around services and programming; it will not only be partner and advocate for our youth but also a safe place for youth to find the support and encouragement needed to change the world.
